Policy Efforts
APF advocates for people with pain at national and state levels by affecting pain policy and practice. Join forces with APF, other organizations and thousands of others across the United States who are committed to raising awareness and promoting the best pain policy, legislation and practice. By uniting, mobilizing and leveraging our collective voices, we can improve pain management. It is not acceptable that 116 million Americans live with pain, the majority of whom do not receive appropriate care! Need more reasons to get involved? Read about the Problem with Pain.

The Ohio legislature took aim at the problem of “pill mills” and passed House Bill 93, legislation that could have a positive effect on the serious issue of diversion and abuse. The American Pain Foundation (APF) supports the emergency rules that went into effect on June 20, 2011. However, APF is concerned that the proposed permanent rules (4731-29-01) developed by the medical board will have a negative impact on access to timely and effective pain care. There was a hearing on these rules on Friday, June 24, 2011. APF sent out an alert requesting individuals submit testimony to this hearing. Click here to read the letter APF submitted to the hearing. We will keep you updated on the outcomes of this meeting.
