Summary of Membership Survey Responses - June 2011

Knowing that an American Pain Foundation (APF) priority is to grow and better serve our members, the membership services team (consisting of an intradepartmental group of staff members and a representative from APF’s Pain Community Advisory Council) conducted a survey of current members for the June Action of the Month. Data were collected about the needs of our membership by soliciting feedback on our current programs and services. This is the first in a series of regular, quarterly surveys to improve interaction and ensure APF meets the needs of our members.

Based on APF’s mission to educate, support and advocate for people affected by pain, members were asked to choose up to two items in each of these areas that they would like to see us expand. The results are detailed in the graphs below. When choosing top priorities for expansion, more than 46 percent of respondents listed coping techniques as the highest priority in education, with more than 45 percent choosing the toll-free phone line for support improvement and 40 percent selected federal advocacy issues as their top advocacy need.

Members were asked to choose their top three APF services/programs in order of importance. The website and policy alerts were the top two choices with 22.3 percent and 21.6 percent of the vote respectively. The PainAid online community, safety recall alerts and Action Network advocacy opportunities received 14.2 percent, 14.1 percent and 13.6 percent of the vote respectively.

Thank you for participating!

Thank you to all who took the time to take the survey. We appreciate your time and input. These survey results are a “conversation starter” and help to inform operational planning and budgeting going forward. APF plans to survey members on a quarterly basis to explore opportunities for growth and expansion of our programs that have been identified in this initial survey. These surveys will narrow the scope and delve deeper into the details of the key areas to explore and address the top needs expressed by you, our members.

We will report back to our members with results and next steps as we move forward in our continuing mission to educate, advocate and support people affected by pain.
