Our guest speaker this evening Lt. Col. Chester C. Buckenmaier III, MD. Dr. Buckenmaier is chief of the Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management Initiative at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He is developing a procedure known as regional anesthesia, to manage the severe pain that many wounded soldiers experience.
Breakthrough Pain
Claudia Campbell, Anesthesia Pain Management Service manager for Intermountain Health Care in Salt Lake City, has served for more than a decade as a pain management specialist, educator and advocate. She will discuss the topic of breakthrough pain. Many people with pain have a difficult time separating how they feel some of the time with how they feel most of the time. We hope to give you some tips and hints that will help you to recognize your breakthrough pain and to talk with your loved ones and physicians with more success.
Can Holiday Eating Effect Your Pain?
The topic for this evening is "Sugar Plums, Figgie Pudding and Even Grandma’s Fruitcake: Can Holiday Eating Effect your Pain?” She will be talking about different foods and different pain diagnoses and how the two are related. Especially during this time of parties and family gatherings, you want to be sure you make food choices that will keep you feeling your best.

Kris Robinson PhD, FNPbc, RN will discuss the role of caregivers and the importance of self care. In addition to her professional expertise, Kris is also a caregiver for her husband who has chronic pain.

Brenda Murdough MSN, RN-C, Military/Veterans Initiative Coordinator, American Pain Foundation will discuss the importance of sleep in your pain management plan.
Complementary/Alternative Medicine
Judith Fouladbakhsh, PhD, faculty member of long-standing at Wayne State University, College of Nursing will discuss the topic of complementary and alternative medicine.
Disabled American Veterans
Adrian M. Atizado, Assistant National Legislative Director for Disabled American Veterans, will discuss how the DAV can help veterans with pain and what legislation is out there to assist veterans.
