Maryland Pain Initiative Converts to Inactive Status

The Maryland Pain Initiative (MPI), a non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life of all Marylanders affected by pain was re-activated in March 2001. For over ten years, MPI was successful through the diligent work and efforts of a handful of dedicated volunteer health care professionals and people living with pain. To begin, in March 2002, MPI celebrated the first Pain Awareness Month in the nation by presenting the results of the Maryland State Survey on Pain during the annual meeting of the American Pain Society in Baltimore. MPI continued to successfully influence positive state policy change, conduct pain related research projects and provide outreach education to Marylanders across the state.

May 2011, the Board of Directors made the difficult decision to disband.  MPI has become inactive until such time that new leadership and volunteers are available to re-activate this unique initiative. The MPI website and key documents will be archived for historical referencing through the generosity of the American Pain Foundation, who has provided critical support to MPI during its activity.

Please check back periodically for updates in MPI status.
